What Building EconLens as a Solo Dev Taught Me

Building EconLens as a solo developer in Brussels taught me something uncomfortable: the hardest part of building a product is not the code. It is getting people to try it.

On the technical side, the tool already does a lot. It pulls live data from five official sources, streams the analysis in real time, generates charts, uploads files, exports to PDF, and remembers your research across sessions. All that infrastructure quietly works in the background.

But none of it matters if nobody uses it.

That is the real job now: earning enough attention and trust that economists, analysts, students, and journalists are willing to invest a few minutes into a new tool. The value only shows up when their workflow actually changes.

So if you work with economic data in any capacity—from professional macro research to just trying to understand what you read in the FT—I would genuinely appreciate it if you gave EconLens five minutes.

And if something breaks, tell me. I fix bugs the same day.
